Today marks five months since I installed RunKeeper on my phone and completed my first run. Six months ago running wasn’t a part of my life; I was simply a running spectator. Runners have always been a part of my life, including my sisters and my husband, but I’ve always been the dancer and they’ve always been the runners. I never thought that I could also be a runner.

Throwback to March 16th, the day I installed the RunKeeper app and started tracking my running progress
But that all changed five months ago. After Preston’s inspiring completion of the Disney World Marathon in January, I decided that I could do whatever I put my mind to and defy the expectation that the world has set for dancers: that dancers don’t run. Am I the fastest runner? No. Is my endurance great? No. But I’m doing it, and defying the odds as I prove to myself that I can do whatever I put my mind to, all while keeping my eye on the prize – completing the Disney World Half Marathon this coming January.
Its been quite the journey thus far! Over the past five months, I have logged over 280 training miles and run five races, including my first 10K last month. The coming weeks and months should prove to be even more exciting. I’m currently scheduled to run four races in September alone, including another 10K, and I will be starting my focused training for the Disney World Half Marathon the first week of September.
Prior to five months ago, I never thought I could turn myself into a runner. But I have, and my sense of accomplishment feels amazing. I can’t wait to continue to improve my running abilities, and see where this journey continues to take me!
